MacLeod Gallery is owned by and hosts the work of Murdo A. MacLeod D.A, a practising artist whose considerable output is being added to constantly. Although he paints seascapes and landscapes, he also specializes in figurative paintings and prints, most of which are based on childhood memories of holidays spent in the western isles of Scotland, These represent the customs and culture of a bygone age, memories which are too precious to be forgotten. The way of life portrayed in these scenes remained largely unchanged through the first half of the 20th century.

Murdo was born in Glasgow and received his early art training in the Glasgow school of art under David Donaldson, R.S.A. After graduating he taught in Glasgow before moving to the Isle of Lewis, where he established Muirneag Galleries in 1976, which he ran with his Harris born wife Dolina.  He taught art in the Nicolson Institute in Stornoway until 1985, when he left teaching to become a full time professional artist. His paintings and prints are in private collections worldwide. He was the Scottish artist represented at the Exhibition of Celtic art in Copenhagen in 1986, and has exhibited in various galleries in the U.K. The importance of his prints has been recognized by the National Library of Scotland which has acquired a full set for posterity.
